March 6, 2004 - Denver Minghui Chinese School
Formally Opens
On Saturday
March 6, Denver Minghui Chinese school formally opened. The students range
from babies who just started to learn to speak to adults including Chinese,
Americans and Vietnamese. During the first class, in addition to teaching
students some basic Chinese and short phrases, the teacher also corrected
students' pronunciation of "Falun Dafa Hao" (Falun Dafa is great)
and Chinese words of the formulas for Sending Righteous Thoughts.
Local Falun Gong practitioners have been actively involved in the preparation
of the Minghui Chinese School. They hope that the opening of the Minghui Chinese
School in Denver will provide Colorado children a good environment for creating
their bright futures.

February, 5, 2004 - Letters to Editor
Most people
would agree that no one should be imprisoned for surfing the web. Yet a recent
Amnesty International report indicates that China is holding at least 54 Internet
users for expressing opinions or reading banned information from the web.
Amnesty’s report also mentions four Falun Gong practitioners that died in
police custody. The reason for their detention: downloading or posting information
about Falun Gong, a spiritual meditation practiced in 50 countries but banned
in China. Of the four was a 56 year old woman named Zhao Chunying, who was
reportedly beaten to death by police for posting information about being tortured
during a previous detention. China’s crackdown on the Internet is only part
of its strategy to control what people read, hear, watch or think.
As for Falun Gong’s case, the state-controlled media hides human rights violations
against the spiritual group while spreading slander intended to justify the
ban on the practice. With no means to respond to unsubstantiated allegations,
educating the Chinese populace has been Falun Gong’s biggest challenge. As
for those who believe China’s one-sided propaganda, the persecution somehow
becomes acceptable to an unknowing public. If more people knew that innocent
people were being unjustly persecuted, things would turn around. Zhao Chunying
lost her life while letting the world know of torture occurring behind closed
doors. When Chinese citizens risk their lives to uncover human rights violations,
those of us living in free societies should at least acknowledge their plight.
Better yet, we should stand by them.

Rocky Mountain News, Colorado: Falun Gong devotees laud passage of bill
August 20,
2002
Letters to the
Editor
Falun Gong of
Colorado would like to report the unanimous passage of HR 188 on July 24, which
calls on Jiang Zemin's regime to cease the persecution of Falun Gong in China.
Falun Gong, also
known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient practice for mind and body, originating in
prehistoric China. The practice involves some slow, gentle movements and
mediation. It is easy to learn, enjoyable to practice, and free of charge. A
central component of Falun Gong practice is studying the universal principles of
truthfulness, compassion and tolerance.
Many people find
that the benefits of Falun Gong are simply too good to be kept to themselves.
Thus, almost entirely through word of mouth, Falun Gong has spread and attracted
more than 100 million people from more than 60 countries within the last 10
years.
Falun Gong would
like to thank all of Colorado's congressional representatives who voted for HR
188.
We are
especially grateful to Reps. Tom Tancredo and Mark Udall for presenting
supportive statements at the Washington, D.C., Falun Gong rally on July 23.
We are calling
on all kindhearted people to voice their concerns over the brutal persecution of
Falun Gong.

Speech at Washington DC July 23 Rally
July 23, 2002 - Letter from Congressman Mark Udall of Colorado to July 23 DC Falun Gong Rally
I'd
like to welcome you all to Washington. I'm sorry I can't be here in person to
wish you well, so I'm thankful that Falun Gong representatives from my state of
Colorado will share a few words with you that I've written.
I stand with you
in speaking out against the religious persecution of Falun gong practitioners in
China. Falun Gong representatives believe that over 100,000 Falun Gong
practitioners have been arrested. It has also been reported that tens of
thousands have been thrown into labor camps without trial, that healthy
practitioners have been put into mental hospitals and have suffered illegal
psychiatric abuse, and that hundreds if not thousands have been killed in police
custody.
It is thought
that there are as many as 100 million Falun Gong practitioners worldwide. Falun
Gong believers hold that this spiritual practice instills the three principles
of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance. They would merely like the
opportunity to peacefully practice their beliefs without fear of torture or
imprisonment. Their ability to practice their beliefs both in China and in
countries around the world should not be obstructed.
I know my colleagues in Congress join me in supporting Falun Gong and its practitioners' quest for peace and tolerance. Thanks to all of you for your relentless fight for religious freedom in China.
